Unfortunately even good coins can be released in such a manner that as a speculative investor you can't put your money in because the time it takes for you to make money back is too long. In the case of pre-mines where the devs and friends have a huge amounts of the total coinage in circulation it is scary knowing they can dump the price if it hits their target.

i'm making so much fucking money from MRO. I got in HOURS before the price first exploded. I set some sell orders overnight for four times the price I'd paid, thinking they'd never be filled. Next morning I'd quadrupled my money and I still have the majority of the coins I bought.

PoW ending tomorrow must have the entire cryptocurrency community in a buying frenzy. If you have any BTC at all, now appears to be the time to buy up as much MAST as possible because even now, before the PoW is over, the price is climbing so high and so fast it's unreal. If this is what the price is like BEFORE the mining stops, just imagine what it'll be at by tommorrow night.

I've been watching the sale books for the last few hours. The price is lower now than it's been since the rest of the evening, and it seems to be because the buys/sells tended to be in a relatively low amounts all day long (50-300 MAST) but within the last hour or so, coinciding with the price drop, sales have been in massive numbers for ridiculously low prices. I.e. 4000-6000 MAST at a time for literally tens of percentages less than the highest bidder.

My guess is that all those people who mined up until now are dumping like crazy for whatever amounts guarantee them selling off everything in their stock. Makes sense since PoW ends tomorrow and that'll be it for mining. Shame I hadn't waited until this inevitably happened though, since I'd have been able to buy in as low as it'll probably ever be again.

Oh well. If you haven't bought any yet I'd say now's the golden age, though.

My advice is trying to invest relatively early in whatever coin is the flavour of the moment.
Lurk bitcointalk, /biz/, etc to get informations about that.
You can expect a 5x return on investment on average if you pick right.

Don't try to be smarter than the market, follow the trends, don't get too greedy and wait some days before selling, even if the price is a little down.

You'll have highs and lows. You'll get so greedy you'll think you're Buffet, and you'll get so desesperate you'll throw you money in whatever coin some retard is shilling in hope to make your money back.

Anyway, just try it yourself, that's the best way to learn.
Begin small, and risk more when you become more confident.

There was a guy like this, called Fontas. Every now and then he would buy some shitcoins, shill it on his twitter and on the BTC-e trollbox, and sell everything at the top.
One day he disappeared, his twitter deleted and some rumors of him getting caught by the FBI or whatever emerged.

I don't know if this is true, but know that even if you won't get in trouble from pumping and dumping, you'll get some with the fed because you'll be making a shitload of money that appeared out of nowhere, from their point of view.

Just to present a counter point, I'm currently up ~$7000 by *not* investing in the flavour of the moment. Instead by genuinely seeing what coins appear to have something novel apart from a mining function and doing longer term (months) investment. (DRK and Doge)

I would never buy any coin just because the price was rising. If I research the coin, decide it has merit, *THEN* see that the price is rising.. That may be a good sign, depending on if its a mad bubble or not.

Currently I have MRO, DRK, ANC and will be holding them for several months at least

How do you know that today's 24-Hour High isn't the highest it will have ever gotten? I ask because the question pertains moreso to over-all cryptocurrency trading rather than this one particular cryptocoin. Worked for me with BTC, Doge, DRK.

If I buy, it's for a while. I don't ever sell on drops. Sure, I've lost money (PND, GRC). But overall am up.

My main problem is I don't want to sell, ever. I've taken back my initial investment, now I'm just trying to build up a portfolio of several promising coins. (e.g. I made 1000% on DRK, then diversified that into MRO and ANC).

I mean, if anything happens with ANC it won't be for several months anyway. It's nice to buy early.

Still think DRK can go up further since it has momentum and active, well funded, devs. The recent rise probably gave the devs a lot of cash to play with.

Yah, if I lurked the alt coin forums all the time probably speculating on the more risky prospects might make me more. But I don't like to commit that much energy to this game.

MAST is a good pick because it has a low number of coins, a PoW/PoS model, and its still relatively unheard of with tons of room for growth. Its already trading 8th place on coinmarketcap in 24 hour volume. Miners are letting go of their coins cheap before PoW ends.

Basically, if you get in while it's still on bittrex/poloniex, there's a real good chance you'll make money if you follow the trends. Like how does the bitcointalk thread look, how's the trading volume, how is it doing on coinmarketcap, things like that. If you think it has the potential to go up, then take a risk and get in early. Unless the volume is in thousands of bitcoins, once it hits mintpal/cryptsy its usually all about dumping at that point.

I've gotten majorly burned on shitty coins before, but right now is just a great time for altcoins for some reason. People are into X11 coins now with less than 10mil total and featuring a PoW/PoS model.

/biz/ has made some good picks so far. Go with MAST and XC. Good luck.
