I want to teach mathematics at a state college or a community college. Is this feasible?

>> No.319145

Get a Masters and teach at a CC.
4-years require a PHD and a tolerance for bureaucratic bollock, this is typical for meriburgers

I've already planned a course for a PhD. Is there a demand?

I taught math for a little while, but it just never added up to anything.

What type of school? What was the quality of your life? Doesn't seem particularly great.

for tenure it's hard, but a PHD is bretty employable.
Also Tutoring is more financially and intellectually rewarding to the traditional classroom

>70K

At a state school or community college, with only a Master's you're looking at closer to 40-50k, that's if you can manage to land a full time position. More than likely they will work you as a part time adjunct, and you'll be making closer to 15-20k, 30k if you're lucky.

And PhD?

PhD depends, if you're just teaching then 70-90k is feasible, provided you're full time. If you're tenured you're looking at maybe 120k a year.

I really have to stress the full time part. Most college lecturers are just adjuncts and not full time professors. If you're looking at academia as a way to make a decent living you are going to be sorely disappointed.

OK. Thanks.
