Absolutely based. Idk about nevada but in a lot of states you can build 200 square foot structures with no permits. There's a lot of ways to skin it but my experience is that you can fly under the radar in a lot of super rural counties if you wanted too. And even if you go and get permits and do everything above board, the taxes aren't going to be that high in such a rural location. Don't let these idiots keep you from going after your dreams. Setting up a homestead is a lot of work but completely doable on the cheap. But why nevada? There's plenty of cheap land in greener states. Arkansas comes to mind, as does eastern oregon and washington. West virginia might work too. I get that the desert is beautiful but it does present some logistical issues when it comes to homesteading. For instance, having timber on the land is huge when it comes to building and firewood. You save so much money building with the resources on your land. Greener places mean water is much easier to get too.

I would highly recommend taking a trip there before you decide to purchase land. There a shit loads of hot springs in Northern Nevada, especially around Denio and Jarbidge. I'd recommend searching around there.
