she’s sitting across from me

looking back over a bowl of chinese broth
in a booth at hunan garden

next door to the hospital
tired looking people wearing scrubs and white coats

are crowded together at small tables

there are fish in a dirty aquarium
the fugitive is on tv

wind rattles the glass door

it might snow

might not
she lifts the spoon to her lips

but her hand is shaking

and it spills on the table
she lets the spoon fall to the floor

and puts her head in her hands

and tries not to cry in front of people
I pick the spoon up off the floor

set it on the edge of the table
i don't know if i should pray

something about it seems like a trap

maybe god would be offended

i don't want him to take it out on her
asking something from god feels like

a thin string in deep water
i want to open the door and

let all this go in the wind

watch it carried off until

it is too small

to see
in my head im composing a vague petition

it's not a prayer
i ask the waiter for a styrofoam cup and a lid

i pour her soup into it

she sniffs and wipes her eyes

with the back of her hand

and sips it through a straw

Decentralization in the crypto community doesn't even mean decentralized in the general sense. It relies on using a single centralized internet to connect everything. If you were to start mining crypto on mars on a different network you would basically be forking the whole thing and it wouldn't work.

This also means that gold, in a general sense, is still more easily decentralized, as you can trade gold a million light years away and your bankroll of gold will still be verifiable against any other network that trades gold, even if you never had an internet connection that could reach, like is required with crypto.

Crypto just isn't scaleable for this reason, it can't survive a disjointed internet infrastructure (at least most coins I know of, feel free to prove me wrong).

you'd still need to wait on confirmations when you sold your bitcoins to another solar system.

you'll never double spend. even when sending it more than 1 million light years

If you were to separate bitcoin miners right now into chinese, and non chinese internet, you would have two separate forked bitcoin chains with no double spending, but a completely different transaction history going forward. It doesn't work. To each network it would be as if the miners from the other side just stopped mining.

(not just the miners, but also the transactions being separated to each respective network)

Not the same for hard assets like gold. If I went off the grid into a forest and handed you my gold, if you go back towards civilization where people trade gold you will still have a verifiable amount of gold even though no one else knew about our transaction.

Also not only that in current bitcoin implementation if this happened, the moment the networks get reconnected (embargo with china ends or something like that) the smallest chain gets discarded to avoid double spends. That means all the transactions on the less powerful network would get thrown out. That is the single most stupid things I've ever heard when it comes to a "currency".

If china wanted to hurt america they could just stop all non-approved network activity and wait for their miners to easily overtake ours, and whenever they wanted completely nuke our transaction history as the western branch would be treated as a shorter orphan. The moment china felt like doing it they would have america by the balls. Physical assets don't have this limitation.

you could easily decentralized waffle house. remove the owners, give workers a equal share of the profits instead of $7.50/hour, give workers the ability to vote on the direction of the company, etc

what recourse do the waffle wagies have in this scenario?
