Nick Szabo (he created a similar bitcoin project papers before bitcoin and later changed the date to hide his tracks), he was friend with Hal Finney (first bitcoin recipient), Hal Finney lived two blocks away from Satoshi Nakamoto so Hal knew Satoshi...
My theory is that Nick and Hal used Satoshi name to hide their identity.
