My logic is that if my stocks take a massive dotcom dump then dividend yields would end up at 15%. That was my theory buying in and why I'm not panic selling even though I have massive dumps to suffer.

Imo the only valuation you need is whether you think company growth will make up for valuation (measured in future dividends). I'm not selling because I believe my companies will do well over the next 5 years.

Also if the fed lets yields creep up to 5% the gubment would have to pay half of its revenue in taxes. Will the fed crush the yield curve? Maybe. Will the yield go up? Maybe. Will we have inflation? Maybe. I don't think you can predict the stock market

I doubt we'd see inflation that high anytime soon. Rates were low pre-Pandemic, with big government deficits, and we never saw anything close. The workforce has shrunk further since then.

Prices go up in response to reduced supply or increased demand. I can see it happening to specific sectors at different times, but not to the entire economy at once. And certainly not on the scale needed for 10%.

Hmm, well, you have to ask yourself, do you feel comfortable owning this entire market for 5 years? Will you be better off in 5 years? If not, just sell. Imo there can never be 'hold' advice. You either like a stock or you don't. I would personally not buy VTI at this point (and therefore sell) but you have to figure out for yourself whether you think the market will recover.

If you want lame stock with some growth potential, why not research dividend paying retail and tobacco?

I held through the VXRT announcement and it was extremely painful.
They have an absolutely great product, but until people recognize that IgA immunity is just as good as IgG, and including more than the spike protein is important, it's not going anywhere.
They are doing the next phases AFAIK, and I'm pretty sure they will need to dilute to fund that, so keep that in mind.

But as I see it, they are literally the best vaccine currently, but they are far from cashing in on that potential.

But I started investing only last year and at first was really taken in by Cathie's "disruptive innovation" stuff. Only gradually did I learn more and changed my view. I started selling some stocks earlier this year thankfully, but I still held on to some growth stocks, even if in retrospect I probably wouldn't buy e.g. NET at a price-to-sales ratio of 50. It's still a good company but maybe not at that price.

GEVO was going to moon based on its momentum. Then the GMEME sucked most of the momentum out, and now that most people realized that most of the stock price was pure speculation, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes back to something like $1.5.

I wonder how it's going to do once a catalyst comes in the form of a govt subsidy/contract or some good PR like Net Zero 2. If it only does a 2x from $1.5, it will be kinda painful.

The bottom is likely +/- a day from today. We could see more of a drop Monday, but from a technical perspective, indices are reaching the oversold point, which they likely won't stay near for long without consistent downside surprise events. The news regarding long duration real yield's has been priced in multiple times at this point (two spikes of the nominal US 10 year note above 1.5%, continued upward pressure past that level, and consistent Fed messaging regarding transitory inflation). Their rate of change was/is the biggest issue, but now that in and of itself is nothing new. The equity markets could possibly "tolerate" periodic bond vol if it's something they come to expect, with potentially minor associated equity vol.

It feels like this is the first convergence of all of these interrelated factors into the recovery, hence the huge vol in capital markets as everyone readjusts to the data and news. But, we've probably priced the bulk of it in within the past month. The reality is that we're still a long way off from the Fed's goals, monetary policy will remain easy, and the labor market puts a ceiling on how quickly rates can rise before the Fed steps in for the broader health of the economic recovery.

Probably as a whole, but under the hood, how have the fundamentals of your AMZN's or MSFT's changed? Are these still not the modern bond equivalent? Do people think that their earnings potential is truly going to be heavily impacted by forward-looking inflation that's under 2%? Keep in mind rates have trended downward for decades now, not up. I think people will realize which big tech blue chips are worth holding and will cycle back into those again for long term holds after the dip.

precious metals aren't productive assets, think of it as an inflation protected currency and allocate your portfolio accordingly.

nobody can predict the future, but you can use macro to value assets: eg. when yields are low dividends are more valuable.

Hey anon, let me be a dad for you for a minute.
If you're upset with who you are or where your life is, don't kill yourself like a fucking coward. You're depressed because you know you're a loser, and that's okay. Look at how many losers there are in the world, who don't realize they're loser. You have the insight to recognize your short-comings, now the test is whether or not you have the will to overcome them. Don't be a pussy anon, you'll make more money, you'll make more friends, whatever. But the only way you're going to do it is by being reasonable with who you are and what you need to do, don't fall into the trap of the theatrical depression. It may not feel like it, but it's a choice you're making.
Be strong anon, stop looking at your folio for as long as you need to decouple emotionally from your trades, and use that time to get comfy and do something better. You'll be fine, anon, you can do it.

What does it protect against though? Because having e.g. 10% in cash instead of SPY or VTI, you are constantly losing out on gains, while not really being protected against anything.
When do you spend that cash? In SPY dips?

As an alternative strategy I'd suggest holding blue chips or indexes isntead. In case of a memepocalipse we've seen teh last few weeks, rotate that SPY into emerging growth stocks. Then when it looks overheated, jsut rotate back to SPY. Even if you misjudged how overheated things were, SPY will make you money, while cash will not.
