BTC has a massive carbon footprint, and it has no fucking use. Sell every BTC you own, or you will get absolutely buttraped. Governments around the world will halt BTC trading bc for them its a quick win to show they're 'ecofriendly' + they dont give a rat's ass about the fact some nerds have their life savings in it.

>> No.30265919

people have been talking about this for years why hasnt anything happened yet

>> No.30265933

this doesn't make any sense.
"massive carbon footprint"? or do they mean "energy consumption"? because those are not the same thing.
bitcoin can be "ecofriendly" (whatever the fuck that means) if the electricity used is from renewable sources.

if bitcoin is not ecofriendly, then electric cars aren't either. sure, you might charge your car with electricity produced in wind farms but i might charge mine with electricity produced in coal plants.
besides, batteries and other parts of a car have a larger carbon footprint than a fucking cpu or gpu.

this argument is retarded. bitcoin (or anything that uses electricity) is not the problem. the way electricity is produced is the problem.

Never mind the fact that those same retards who complain about bitcoin beeing eco unfriendly will ALWAYS AND WITHOUT FAIL brag about how many countries they have already been to and how many more they want to travel to. Now, will those retards at any point look in their life look at the carbon emission from an airplane, compare it to bitcoin and then kill themselves? Definitely not because they are only capable of thinking in the realms of whatever CNN allows them to think and nothing more.

lol, I love uneducated people babbling about something they literally understand jack shit about

You can't compare a transaction network such as Bitcoin to a country, silly boy. At the very best, you have to compare something tries to achieve the same goal. Compare it to mastercard or visa network, if you want.

Carbon footprint is literally the stupidest fud out there. Try measuring the carbon footprint of all banks. Or even better, this >>30265967.
You have absolutely 0 idea on the environmental impacts caused my metal extractions. It's among the most destructive industries out there. Habitat destruction and heavy metal pollution through whole trophic chains should be enough incentive to halt or at the very least mitigate mining impacts. But very little is done.

If one is truly worried about carbon footprint, one can start by addressing the biggest contributors to carbon emission, such as meat industry and energy consumption. Attacking bitcoin for this is laughable. Literally trying to put a band-aid on a bullet wound.

>> No.30266663

>>30266179

And this is a failed argument because one could simply state that the value of travelling is much superior to the value of bitcoin, which is none.

A better one is just explain that bitcoin is here to over throne the current banking system. Can you measure the entire carbon footprint of the whole banking system? Imagine all that energy wasted, but the millions and millions of buildings, filled with servers processing transactions between accounts in different countries.

you have no fucking clue
is it more profitable to mine btc or to sell electricity to the population?
POPULATION PAYS 10X THE PRICE
miners are literally incentivized to produce energy for the population, but the point is that most of the renewables are far from the cities and the cost of building a power grid is too expensive + electricity it's hard to store, if you don't consume it immediately it's wasted

Climate change crises are always 10-20 years away, and have been since the 60s when the concept was sold to Western academics by the soviets as an anti-industrialization ploy. Remember the hole in the ozone? Remember acid rain? Remember global cooling? Remember the polar bears going extinct?

It's a scam, and one that's crippling a lot of actual ecological preservation work. If people stopped panicking over variations in models that have yet to predict shit, they might actually do something about the reefs dying, or the Amazon being cut down, or China pumping billions of tons of plastic into the ocean each year.
