To sell covered calls, you need 100 shares and the price you bought them at does not matter. You can do this 2 ways on Questrade: you can buy the 100 share and then sell the covered call. Or you can buy the 100 shares and sell the covered call at the same time. The later would save you a bit on commissions. And just a heads up, you can sell cash covered puts in a TFSA/RRSP, you need a margin account to do that.

Premium is already really high on options, which is a way of saying the event is mostly priced in. only options that are still short of popping are UVXY calls, since that index lags the SPY going down by several hours in a crash. (derivative of a derivative). Premium is ratcheting up on that too but not nearly as much as puts on market stocks.

Should the scenario come about where the calls you sold are close to being ITM by expiration, just roll them forward to a later expiry. You can essentially roll a call forward forever as long as you have the cash to buy back the call to roll it or unless someone exercises the call.
