any of you have a mining rig? Is it worth it to build one on a budget?

>> No.30237146

My RTX 3070 has went from mining $8 of ETH a day last week to $3 a day this week.

The value of eth, more miners.

Very interested in this thread.
I would love to make one. I've heard that with 6 radeon viis you can make ~2k per month. And that that set-up would cost around 10k.

I don't know the technical details for building a rig however. Details like risers, PSUs, motherboards etc. I have heard and have seen with a bit of research that GPUs are hard to come by.

I'm also interested in somehow getting a bunch of old computers and running them as an XMR mine but I doubt that I'd be able to.

I guess I should ask what is the minimum amount I'd have to invest in a mining rig to get a justified return?

Same, kind of why I made this thread. I have some old pc hardware that's just laying around from the days I was still really into pc gaming. Is it feasible to build a 'frankenstein' mining rig or do you have to have matching gpu/cpus? Maybe I should ask /g/.

I use my 5700 and 2070 super. Both give good returns. You should definitely be using your 5700xt. Between the 2 cards I've gotten 5-14$ a day depending.

I have been mining since 2017. If you can actually get cards at MSRP its not a terrible time to buy in assuming ETH 2.0 switch to PoS takes atleast a year and ETH holds it value in the mean time. However, its basically impossible to get anything at MSRP right now. If I were trying to expand my mining rigs right now (im not) I would look into getting used cards for cheap on ebay

Initial investment was around 12k back in 2017 buying rx 570/580. I've now sold off the 4gb rx570s due to them being unable to mine ETH anymore. I have 24 rx 580s mining now making about 1.5 eth a month. I've long since paid off the initial hardware costs so I've been making pure profit for a few years now.

Also due to the huge spike in GPU demand my rx 570s have held their value and I actually broke even selling them and might break even selling off the rx 580s in the future depending on what the GPU market is looking like. A useful website if you are thinking about getting into ETH mining is whattomine.com ; keep in mind the projected profit is based on current difficulty and price. The amount of ETH mined daily will decrease as network difficulty increases.

the problem newcomers have is that it doesn't matter how much the veteran miners spent or make, we are priced out atm, you just can't get good gpus at all, and "used cards for cheap' do not exist at the moment either, if you have a gpu that is good for mining go ahead, otherwise don't even thinlk about it, my gpu that I bought for work a little bit overpriced last year would be worth twice as much used right now IF you could get your hands on one (probable can't) now why would you buy it at multiple times its msrp when by the time you have accuulated some eth the price will more than likely be down?
Bottom line: There is nothing to ponder like a fag about, you have GpUs that are profitable to mine on? Buy a motherboard and PSU today, you don't have one of those cards but have everything else all planned out? Stop daydreaming and spend that money on some coin, mining is not for you.

It was worth getting a bunch of 8GB RX 580 cards last year, before the shortage. Paid off through the boom in ETH fees.

Will take forever to ROI now though, unless you do RVN and it moons. RVN is harder on cards than ETH, you can't underclock as much.

They cannot mine ETH anymore due to the DAG file size being larger than 4gb since about dec 2020. https://minerstat.com/dag-size-calculator ;has the estimated dates for when 5gb, 6gb milestones are reached. A card with atleast 6gb VRAM will almost certainly last through the end of ETH PoW phase.
