Rent cant be reported as late payments. Its not that kind of account. Its not like having a mortgage. Your landlord can tack on late fees or whatever, but their only real recourse that would affect your credit is if they sent your unpaid dues to collections. I do think there is some internal landlord service where other landlords will see you paid rent late, but they're not going to hit your credit.

Late payments do fuck up your credit, but those are for things like credit cards, installment loans (car payment for example), mortgage accounts, things like that.

Rent his room for airbnb, talk to him calmly about it, share your room with him. It is the only solution I had in mind that may work. Explain to him that you really don`t want to fuck up you credit score because of reasons. Tell him that you are buddies that you don`t want him to be in a bad situation, that you really care about him, but due to reasons you really need the money. Ask if he is unable to do things that way ask if he can move out to his parents house for awhile so you can get the money from airbnb.

Just be cool, nothing is the end of the world, things will work out alright, try not to fuck him up, but if you have no choice you can always just change the entrance keys etc. Worst case you would need some one strong to physically remove him from the building, but consider that would cost money and be a really bad situation for both of you. Also, if some one will physically remove him consider that things may go wrong and end up in a fight etc.

i know but it doesn't help that he's super obnoxious and his kid is the most annoying kid ever. he's a terrible parent so it's hard to have sympathy for him. he'll allow his kid to be up at 5am screaming and wont repromand him at all. and the fact that hes got 3 vehicles worth around 25k total sitting in the parking lot and wont sell one of them to pay rent on time is another thing that pissed me off. or him leaving the front door open or window open during the winter and wondering why we got a $225 electric bill this month. he's just the worst man its' been a roommate from hell. never again will i have a roommate after this experience.

Few things:
Talk to the property manager, let her know roommate is delinquent but you are not

Ask for an extension while you search for a new roommate

Tell her she can find a new tenant if she wants to end the term of the lease early, that way you don't have to pay the full term

Document everything, that way you can take your roomie to small claims court for the money if youre stuck paying it.

Well, I don't know, you may be in an unsolvable situation, It is like that Aesop's Fables of the frog and the scorpion. If that is the case you will learn some thing really valuable, and the most valuable lessons are the ones that cost more. Try to put this at the table also, talk to him like you want to help him solve this issue, ask if you can find some to buy one of his cars at a really cheap price see how things go. If things are really that bad and there is no way to solve it, just don't pay the rent also, sell things from the home etc.

Credit scares exist to show how trustworthy you are at paying back your borrowed money. If you don’t pay back what you borrowed i.e. rent, then your score goes down because it looks like you defaulted on the contract.

I had a similarly shit roommate in college, I ended up covering for him and paying his share out of my own pocket for like 6 months because he fucked up. He ended up dropping out of med school and getting a shitty job to fix it and was able to pay the whole rent for the second half of the year so it balanced out. But it completely ruined our friendship, I moved out after that and we've never spoken again since. The thing that bothered me most was his lack of appreciation, he took responsibility for his fuck up but I became the guy 'to pay back' instead of the guy 'who helped him'. Money issues between friends is utterly poisonous, it turns good people into assholes. Learned my lesson though, never lent money again to anyone.

Have you ever looked at a credit report? They just list where you live, you dont see accounts on your credit report for rent. They do not exist out side of some possible insane scenario I'm unfamiliar with. Rent is not borrowed money. Its an agreement between you and a landlord, they're not credit reporting type accounts
