Building Dapps on Kusama is a lot cheaper and much easier to change/upgrade on the fly. But many are building their Dapps on Kusama as a testnet to tweak their Dapp and constantly change it for their Polkadot Product release.

Polkadot is much more secure, has much higher stability and validator rewards for highly used parachains.
