I'm three weeks into my new job and I want to quit. How do people do this for 60 years?

As much as it's memed, that one Simpsons scene where he spells out "Do it for her" is how. If you have a purpose in life you can weather almost any storm.

The fear of my wife and children starving or even just growing up poor. I would've quit years ago otherwise.

If you follow the life script, you have to work to pay for all the bullshit you buy.

My first and last job working for someone I waged for one year and went full cocoon mode with the money to start my own biz. I swear to fucking god every fucking day after the first month of waging I wanted to kms, the only thing that kept me going was the hoarding of money to at least try and do some shit on my own with the hope and desire to never wage again in my life, even if I failed I would still be more content than blowing my checks on stupid shit.

Dear god. I always worked part time and kept it over the weekends so I could do the fun shit with old people whilst wagies slaved away.

Still, when I did a couple stints of full time, I was filled with the dread of knowing I’d return to this place for years.

Stop thinking like a boomer,

these days people change jobs every couple of years unless they really love what they're doing which most people don't.

Are you still changing jobs every six months? Even the smartest devs I know are struggling to leave right now

>be at work

yeah, endure this every day for the next 40 years

This is why I work jobs where I work alone. Used to be night security in an empty building, now I'm a bus driver. Horrible work but I don't have to pretend I like other people.

Mid 2020 was rough but the market for devs really has recovered imo.

Got let go in March 2020 because covid panic. Started at a new place in early June and worked until November. Got turned down for a raise so I left and had a new job within 2 weeks of applying. Each time I got about a 20-30% raise for switching companies
