Yep.. even worse if you take the bus like me and I take a lyft/uber one way so basically -1-1.5 hrs of work for transportation every day. Have to leave 2hrs early so 8 hrs are more like 10hrs and 30min when including transportation. 8hrs of sleep so 18:30hrs right there. Takes me about 2 hrs to be able to sleep and an hr and a half to get ready so 22hrs gone. That leaves 2 hrs of free time. Because of this, ai actually don't sleep 8 hrs so I have more free time. It's also why I prefer this security job at night since the whole shift is basically a break in itself (but ya, you have to luck out a bit since not all night shifts are this chill, they are just more likely). Some places you sign in trucks. Others you scan for metal to make sure employees don't being in electronics. The one I'm in is basically just baby sitting a building.
If most of my day is going to be robbed, might as well be the most tolerable job I can get. I'm lazy as shit so no work ethic for a "real" job. I don't even have shame saying it. I fucking hate working real jobs. I remember a call center one for instance. Don't like dealing with people like that. Also laborer jobs are exhausting and pay less than security ironically. As far as low wagey jobs go, security jobs are more LIKELY to be chill. You need luck to find the chill ones, but they exist

I learned early on that commuting is a huge waste of time and basically evil. My parents sent me to a high school an hour away from where we lived so I spent 2+ hours every day for four years commuting and until I got my own car senior year I had no way to hang out with friends after school or do club activities. Shit is easy, pays well, requires no experience, and most places will pay for certs so you can rocket up the ladder with very little effort. Learn a skill where you are in demand, maybe work a few years to get enough clientele and experience to start your own outfit, then you can dictate the terms of your work. Maybe work 12 hours 1 day and 4 hours the next. The only reason we work 8 hours is because of laws and we are working for someone else. Even if you got a skill and worked for a big corp. If you get embedded enough just ignore your boss as long as you get the work done.

Oh and this requires work on your part of keep your skills sharp and in demand. But it beats being told HOW to work, instead of what the work outcomes should be.
