What causes the price to just 'jump' like this out of no where? At this time of day...no rhyme, no reason? Don't just say 'hurr durr people buy, it go up' type answers, I legoit want to know what causes this type of movement.

Bitcoin is a highly illiquid market which means a market buy of 100+ BTC on one CEX can easily swing the price upwards half of that by itself, which then triggers bots and day traders to buy in

It's manipulation in the crypto ponzi scheme to make you buy, you buy they sell and take your money

Lots of things can cause a jump like that. Some sort of news catalyst, a short squeeze, a big investment, an algo pump.

But you can't predict when or where it would happen. Short term fluctuations in the market are inherently unpredictable.

Short selling, then selling btc to fake a crash. Problem is you have to buy it back if it fails to drive the price down enough. They do this to not completely lose all their money like a hedge fund.
Someone's wallet did get wrecked in the fail though.

Short covering.
>>29917769
close but not a squeeze. Its literally just a short covering.

It can also be a way for a baggy that's out of liquidity for a dump to trick people into
>BUY THE DIP
so they all pile in and he can keep dumping (which has been happening for a whole week now)

So imagine a beauty contest, but the judges are also the contestants. The judges each receive a bunch of photos of women. They win by picking the most popular photo. The most basic of judges will pick the woman they think is most beautiful. A more advanced judge will try to pick the woman that he thinks most people would find most beautiful. An even more advanced judge would try to guess what most people would think most people would find most beautiful. From this thought experiment we can extrapolate that the price of a stock mostly will go up when many people buy a bunch, and so the stock price goes up.
