SOXL is definitely a riskier play than simply holding SOX but given the low interest rates, the high demand for semis, and the fat premiums on calls, buying SOXL after the split on Monday and writing calls until the end of the year is far from the stupidest play I've seen shilled here... you dont roll when you write. say you sell a call with strike $10 and expiration 2/1/2021 on 1/1/2021 when the price of the stock is only $7. Say the price of the stock on 2/1/2021 is now $10. Rolling is the transaction by which you simultaneously buy to close your 2/1/2021 $10 call for a loss, while selling to open ANOTHER call. This time say for 3/1/2021 and strike of $12. Often times, you can do this transaction such that the new sale of the call outweighs the loss of buying to close the first ITM call. Or, if you think the stock will dump before then and allow you to buy the call back and then sell another covered call on the next pump
