The premise is not stupid. There is literally no worth to BTC. If you can replace it with an ERC20 token that has the same value, then there is no reason to have BTC. Burning it does that without any security flaws. This kind of thing could be big for large institutions. Could you imagine a bank using wBTC and an exploit being discovered that let some people steal all the BTC that wBTC was backed to? Imagine the huge out-lash. It would be like the depression all over again with peoples reception to banks.
The problem is that vBTC, TRDL's ERC20 BTC, is not properly pegged to BTC so the value is not the same. If someone can fix this then there's literally nothing wrong with burning BTC and if crypto becomes more widely used, it would be practically necessary.
I really do not think TRDL will be the ones to fix this though. I have hope for the concept but the team is inept. Maybe in 10 years someone else will have re-done things better.
