Any other programmers here ever thought of quitting your job and freelancing? Tired of the long hours and boring projects

How's the income and stress levels compared to your previous job? What kind of freelance work do you do?

>> No.29671978

Ive hired freelance devs before on a project basis and most did well, but they all got paid way under market rates that big companies can bear. Prepare to pay extra taxes and acquire expensive dog shit obamacare insurance

Pro-tip: Freelancing is seen as cheap labor. Don't brand yourself as a freelancer or you'll be competing with Pajeets for shit jobs and competing on price. Call yourself a consultant.
Another pro-tip: working for others is a means to an end, not the end itself. You should be taking on programming gigs so you can pay the bills until you get your own business off the ground. Working for others is for suckers when you have the ability to create any business you want to.

i do ok since i have a reliable source of work, though i'd say i'd be better off if i'd kept my job in financial terms
since then i've lived in a bunch of countries and done some cool shit so it paid off in my books
stress-wise, as long as i hit the bottom line i do as much work as i feel like doing, and i work on my own businesses and projects on the side

A business is just working for others on a larger scale retard

>> No.29673017

if you have the option, try to keep your current job but as a contracted freelancer, then build on that and get hired for proper jobs by other companies. this is the only way to not land in the pajeet code market >>29672313 outlined.
taxes are also a nightmare, to improve that situation you could try to become a company and try to get contracted that way, which should allow you to escape most taxes.

Try firing annoying clients when you're an employee.

a business is when you charge a premium on OTHER PEOPLE'S labor
that's the real way to make money
