Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized p2p privacy cryptocurrency!

Monero is secure, low-fee, and borderless, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT (hidden tx amounts) ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with transactions being visible only by a Monero user willingly providing a view key for a specific transaction.

Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of current popular cryptos. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of txs increases. Further, the mining network algorithm RandomX establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier of entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward will gradually approach 0.6 XMR in May 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a MoneroChad will be with you shortly.

You guys are the only technical people that can explain this to me. Why doesn't people think Bitcoin Cash as a store of value? I mean isn't there will be 21 million of them? Why do they promote themselves as a medium of exchange when ultimately it has a hard cap?

The more expensive the network is, the higher is the payout for miners, the higher is the mining power, the more secure is the network. Add to that network effects, storing wlth in a high marketcap asset is more reliable and thus trusted. The war about SoV is over, BCH knows that, so the only thing that's left is being a medium of exchange.

I work for a bank and our policy on crypto has very recently turned into "if the client can't/is not willing to provide every single crypto transaction he's ever made, how much crypto he owns exactly or if the answer does not satisfy the banker, then it'll go straight to AML (which will eventually not only lead to a termination of clientship, but also to an temporary account freeze)".

I'm withdrawing a couple thousand € cash soon. I advise all of you to do the same. If your banker calls you, be as polite/cooperative as possible or at least make it seem so. Make sure you make clear that you do NOT view crypto as an investment, but as a hobby/tech/something to play around with...that's the main thing.

We might have to sit this one out, boys. I have reasons to believe that soon this policy will spread like a virus.

I just want freedom ffs

Lets say theoretically i am going bankrupt or will be away from crypto for a few years. Would Monero be the best place to store my assets? It would be nice to come back to at least a 10x 5 to 7 years from now. What is the Monero price prediction that far out? I was thinking a quarter in Monero, Etherium (theres articles claiming 100k price predictions), bitcoin, and loopring or some other alt. Convince me to just go all in Monero. Im afraid it will be canceled by the fed and not have the same growth as easier purchased cryptos.
TLDR - Monero price prediction 5 years from now.

How can something so vulnerable to governmental blacklisting be considered trustworthy? With Bitcoin you can never be 100% certain you won't have some kind of taint/fungibility issues eventually, with Monero I can sleep peacefully at night knowing the worst they can do is ban it and even then atomic swaps are only months away now.

If you want the opinion of professional analysts then check out the Satis Group report from late 2018, in their estimation criminal adoption and "unlawful activities" i.e. black markets, tax evasion, money laundering, etc will push Monero upwards of $40K by decades end.

Bear in mind this is a tentative timeline and the current crypto market is too irrational to predict with any degree of accuracy. But their actual reasoning is pretty much spot-on, we are indeed seeing increasing levels of crypto-related organized crime as time passes, and Monero should ultimately reap most if not all of those rewards.

if there would be some massive ban on monero, is it possible that in the long term it could actually make the price grow because they would essentially admit that it's so good

of course short term it would tank the the price

anyway, i think such consensus would be extremely unlikely, going to hold my XMR probably until 2030 at least

>if there would be some massive ban on monero, is it possible that in the long term it could actually make the price grow because they would essentially admit that it's so good

The only reason to ban Monero is because it's TOO effective at what it does. Therefore:

banning Monero = effectively endorsing its efficacy and reliability = encouraging even more adoption, not less.

And because banning it would reinforce the perception of scarcity the price would likely go up, not down.

Basically, win-win for XMR as long as atomic swaps are fully operational.
