Hey /tv/ I'm 2.5k USD in debt because in december of 2013 I had to take an ambulance ride to the emergency room.

Fortunately, the hospital cut the expenses since I'm unemployed, but the ambulance guys were pretty adamant.

How fucked am I if I don't pay my bills?

Can it affect the financial aid I'm earning from my schooling? I receive $3200 every semester to live.

The ambulance company will sell your debt to a collection agency whom you'll ignore. After seven years (at least in my state) the debt goes away.

I get a call every other day about $400 I owe for an x-ray I got when I got knocked out on a curb. If I actually still owed money to the technician, I'd pay, but owing it to a collection agency means I really don't give a fuck about stiffing them.

I live in southern california, is my credit fucked? not that I had any or planned to use any in the first place.

How else could this negatively affect me?

Also I was supposed to reply for "Jury Duty" but fuck that shit and I threw away the letter. How fucked am I?

Not sure if trolling or not

Depending on how large the debt is, they just sue you and you automatically lose the case. The judge will sometimes just order that your wages be garnished

What are you, stupid? You live in the biggest welfare state in the US, you're unemployed and you aren't on medical assistance?

If you have no income, they'll pay for all your medical expenses for nothing, including ambulance/emergency room fees. The best part? If you apply now, they'll retroactively cover all of your bills for up to 30-60 days depending on your state's policy.

You're welcome.

-It's not illegal to not pay back debt (you won't go to jail)
-They can sue you, but they won't for a measly 2.5k. They probably bought the debt for $100.
-Forget it for 7 years. It'll fall off your credit report and you'll be discharged from the obligation.

>> No.296182

Ambulance guys will sell your debt to a debt collection agency for pennies on the dollar. They will harass you for a while or if they really want the money take you to court and get your wages garnished. They probably wont take you to court over 2.5k. If they do make sure to fight and delay the process as much as possible and they might drop it since it wont be worth their time. Also your credit will get trashed.

>I get a letter from the state attorney saying that the debt I allegedly owed that a bank sold to a debt recovery agency should not be repaid because said debt recovery agency was tacking on extra interest on what was actually owed and that the debt agency had to reverse any negative marks on peoples credit reports.

>mfw I paid that debt years ago

Son of a bitch. I still don't know what it was even about to this day. The only thing I could verify is that the debt was legit according to U.S. Bank. At least those bastards were shut down.

This is one of the reasons my debt collectors don't call as much. I try to goad them into doing something illegal every time they call. Most of the people calling aren't getting paid much, and are able to thug out stupid people that bought a new car on a 25k salary.

If you get them to curse, threaten to arrest you, have someone say they're an attorney when they're not, and a bunch of other shit; you can turn around and sue them. Considering courts hate these niggers, you almost always win. They tend to avoid you if you make them aware that you're not an idiot.

I also owe about $300-$400 to a hospital for the privilege of a doctor being able to write me a prescription for some medication.

The problem isn't the dollar amount. The problem is that they charged me $100 more for the second visit compared to the first visit and the second visit only took a whopping 5 minutes and was WAAAAY less involved. I keep getting letters but it is less about me not wanting to pay and more to do with being too lazy to go to the business office and make them adjust what they charged me.
