It works until they find abandoned soviet bunker #69420 with 1 million rounds up for grabs.

If you knew just how much shit is buried or left abandoned by militaries you wouldn't invest in any non NATO ammo. And even then it's a gamble.

wrong comparison, but ammo is a store of value, more so than I imagined just a few years ago.
I bought some bullets on sale, a good sale, for $1.25 each (normally at least $2.25 on sale). Now you cant even buy them anywhere, but they are advertised from $4 each minimum.

I bought 45 year old russian surplus ammo, you can't buy that shit any more. It was 16cents a round, then about 25 cents a round, now new manufacture is about 80 center per round.

also, you can use ammo to defend the gold you lost in the lake, along with the ammo you also lost in the lake, in minecraft lake.

There wont be a mass crime wave when it does. Even if there were you wouldn't be able to offload it at 2x 3x 4x + because by then everything else will be so scarce nobody could afford it anyways in meaningful quantities. You also don't have enough space to store your ammo to make a major profit. No space and a limited ceiling of value leaves it a shit investment.

Milsurp is unironically a great but unfortunately bulky investment as well. WWII era rifles have exploded in value, just look at old gun store ads and cry when even after adjusting for inflation you realize that Mausers and Lugers were the bitcoin of the Greatest Generation.
Obama era import bans turned $120 1080 round spam cans of 5.45x39 into fucking gold bricks. Only thing is that if you think /pmg/bros are hoarders you've never met a true /k/ommando. No one is ever going to sell their ammo, only use it to acquire more assets through forceful persuasion.
