Quick tip for those using margin on RH: focus on 'Low' volatility labeled positions first so you get the maximum before buying into 'High' ones, this way you get more margin access. If you buy the positions the other way around, your margin max is capped to the 'High' position requirement.

If you have a small account focus on Low-Med volatility positions first to maximize your upside with the added leverage. Ark funds move like TQQQ but you have way more leverage on the former with margin

It's starting to eat up chunks of the DXY, but we keep rolling that debt and it starts eating up chunks of the budget. Do we cut Grandma's medicare, her food budget, the Global Policeforce Budget, or Miscellaneous?

okay, let me explain it like I would to a child.
you have 100 dollars.

You want to buy spy and tqqq.
robinhood allows you to take out a 50% margin position on SPY and a 20% margin position on TQQQ.

Lets invest 50 into spy. Our position is 100 dollars in spy @ 50% margin
Lets now invest the remaining 50 into TQQQ. Our position is 60 dollars, 160 total.

Now lets pretend we did TQQQ first @ 50. Our position is 60 dollars, and we have 50 dollars of cash remaining.
We then buy SPY for 50 dollars, taking a position of 100 dollars.

In both cases our positions are worth $160, and we spent $100 cash.

Your margin varies on the stock in relation to your CASH. so it doesn't matter what you do first at all.

You know, I was thinking of the rising rate risk in terms of a stock market crash, but reading >>29340855 I'm now wondering if the real thing to be worried about is the gov interest payments. Like, congress might not authorize the fed to do more just because of an 80% stock market dip because muh "stocks disproportionately benefit the rich", but they'll definitely greenlight Jpow to step it up if the alternative is the default of the US (only the wokest of woke would think default in nominal terms to be a good idea).

WWII yield curve control was kind of an unusual situation because buying war bonds was presented by the gov as patriotic, and I think it's reasonable to think many at that time would have thought of it that way despite the poor inflation-adjusted returns. With nobody particularly liking the US gov right now, it's hard to believe they'd be able to drum up artificial/idealistic demand for treasuries, which means this will be pure desperation printing. Worst case, take the amount of debt the US gov owes right now - that's the amount of new USD that could enter the money supply overnight.

Going to be some opportunities coming up on utilities companies. The shit going on in Texas is going to discount the entire sector, however the big companies have zero liability at all because ERCOT, a non-profit organization manages the electrical grid and they, if anyone, are liable. This sort of setup makes for some easy acquisition opportunities when business returns to usual. You aren't going to get huge moves, but you're going to get some very high probability small to medium moves. Done correctly, you can make your quarter (at least) on opportunities like this.

I don't know what convoluted autistic, unnecessary example you're imagining, but this is how RH margin has worked for me. They gauge your account on how risky your playing.

Try it, open an account and buy 1 share of TQQQ and see how much margin you get and then buy ARKK and see the difference. Then trying holding all high and all low risk positions. They cap total buying power based on this, and it fluctuates based on your behavior.

Look at pic rel. I bought ALL LOW and then rotated into one medium and got access to more than my actual equity. When I sell CCs my margin access goes up, when I buy contracts my margin access goes down. There's tons of internal algorithms at play

The only people who invest in government bonds when there are better mid-to-long-term investments are boomers, bears, and other governments. High yields mean shit's crashing hard.

In more real terms, it simply means the fed is printing money faster than the market can keep up. Inflation isn't immediately negative, since a static money supply would be otherwise unable to keep up with total population—you can only split a dollar so many ways. Currently the fed is printing money in order to stave off a market crash, and the market is sensing that, and it's anyone's guess what will cause the crash.

you get better as the years go by, and remember not to tell people in the area you live as you will eventually know exactly where to go and what you want. you can spend the first time you try just going from store to store, the sales mirror each other most of the time, so the next year you can keep in mind what you want to buy. it sounds petty but you eventually have an expensive wardrobe. this year was actually fucking crazy because of corona, the outdoor outlets were almost giving stuff away.

People try saying stupid shit like it's because of transphobia. No, you're literally warping your own hormones with drugs and you're scaring healthy body tissue. If US banks are dumping then yeah there's basically no effect, it's foreign holders I'm worried about. That said, some of the finer details of the fed open market operations vs normal debt issuance are fuzzy to me so I don't know.
