Just started a new back office finance job with a bloomberg terminal- what are some fun functions to pass time with?

Some fun ones I've learned the first couple days:

bmap - still figuring out the layers, but pretty cool way to see where natural resources are, where boats carrying commodities are, what pipelines/refineries are up and running etc.

top - top news stories - like google news, but looks like you're doing work, includes some good bloomberg journalism/opinion pieces

dine - yelp for bloomberg, almost exclusively new york lunch or swaggy dinner places near wall street

mvp - see the most searched bios by day, week, month, etc.. esp. interesting with all the goldman/hedge fund bros in the white house now

splc - see what companies supply inputs for a company, and what companies purchase outputs from a company - good example of value bloomberg is adding - can't be found just in filings/internet etc.

excel add ins - again a little slow figuring out the syntax, but pretty sick way to pull data points from bloomberg into excel, then leverage excel's functionality

nice - shows you a business card complete with subtle off-white coloring, a tasteful thickness.

Oh, Bloomberg terminal is fun.

RICH<GO> - list of all the billionaires in the world including super detailed info about their finances.

WEI<GO> - displays a list of the world equity indices, gives you a nice overview of the global market

TWEET<GO> - the most important recent tweets, usually related to politics

Are you Bloomberg market concepts certified?

It's free I believe if you have access to the terminal and takes like 4 hours tops. Helping me land interviews right now for internships as a Junior economics major.

Got any advice for me?

thanks man will definitely check those out

i'm not, i'm a few years out of college but i know it's good especially when applying for internships/1st year analyst jobs, and probably a good way to get proficient on the terminal any time. i should go ahead and do it

sounds like you're on the right track but just work hard, network without being a douche, look towards an mba or cfa a couple years out of college
