Your question is very important: basically some companies "short" Silver on paper. It's just like the GME story but much more shorted. So these companies are trying to keep the price low and at the same time people are expecting the economy to crash or the prices of silver to go up or both. That creates a huge demand for silver while the prices are kept low on purpose.
The result? The premiums are simply a physical demand that has to do with the fake paper prices. Nobody can get physical silver as low as it is on paper so the people are trying to still cling to this paper price for some reason to give it any relevance.

So basically you short the market by borrowing a long futures contract and selling it.
Thats just a contract to deliver at some time in the future.
Though these are almost always settled in cash.
But anyway.
You dont actually have to have any metal to do this.
So what you can do if you are a big institution is just before you are required to purchase a new long contract to cover the long contract you borrowed, you can go back into the market and borrow another and use that to repay the last one.
You can keep doing this indefinitely as long as the price is falling.
And the price will tend to keep falling as long as people are borrowing and selling all of the long contracts.
All you have to do is finally eventually cover once the price is going to rebound hard.
Once it gets pushed down so low it cant realistically go any lower.
So last time that was like $12 or something.

The reason the government allows this kind of thing to happen in the silver market is they see it as competition to the dollar.
So its defacto sanctioned in a way it might not be in other markets.

Very well put. I think that the governments all over the world are doing much more than simply allowing it. In a huge part they are responsible for this situation completely and encourage it. It's so blatant that it only makes sense. Also the silver is kept artificially low because the governments need it that low for now. The thing is that destroying this system would destroy a lot of the governments out there so I think regardless of the demand the paper price will stay the same but the premiums will go up. The price of physical now is still low as fuck and the decoupling of the paper from physical is starting to be the fact of life. No trust in paper now is just a beginning of the dominoes starting to fall. Basically though I don't expect for it to be earth shattering because the governments are involved and the popular movement into the physical won't be enough to shatter the illusion.

Apmex and Kitco are the ones who lead in this. They buy jewelry, refine it and then produce their bars. Obviously they don't rely on this completely and have to buy the majority of their shit from Coomex and mints and Switzerland but refined bars are theirs.
My refiner does their own bars from what I know but not the coins. They source the coins from somewhere and I'm not sure if it's just the mint or do they buy from other places too. But yes, refine the metals, sell pure, absolutely.

A few days ago I think I talked about it: rhodium plate on old jewelry is more like rolled plate where it's a thin sheet of Rhodium glued to silver/gold.
I'm not sure on a yield but all my old Rhodium jewelry sold in an instant and this is how I found out about rhodium going up. It has to be ok but I don't know how to do it.
I would expect, on old jewelry for the years to be around 1/20th of the pile anon.
The old white gold was done this way as well.
The best idea is to go to someone who has an XRF gun and check which one of this is rhodium and which one is nickel.
The newest jewelry was just advertised as rhodium plate but it was nickel.
Basically you would have to research how to refine it because I honestly have no clue.
