Buying a dog is surprisingly long process though. You need to find someone who is breeding the breed you want, and then queue for next puppies batch. Some breeders at least in my country also don't want to sell puppies to just anyone, but they want to meet you first and see if you're a sane person.

Also due to covid the demand for dogs is really high.

I can back this up. Spent months talking to rescues in April and every dog was getting snatched up before we could even meet them. Found a GSD breeder who seemed like a nice lady with a clean upper middle class home who had one puppy left unclaimed and paid the deposit. Couldn't have turned out better.
