How did this container home trend start?
Did some guy who needed to unload his surplus of shipping containers start this?
It makes not sense to do this.

I used to think this was such a genius idea of using these strong mass manufactured items and dreamt of constructing a giant compound out of shipping containers. But when I looked into it more I realized it's actually pretty retarded and you run into a lot of problems and expenses due to the fact that they're ultimately designed to be closed containers stacked on ships to transport cheap chinese shit around the world.
There's a reason why developers don't build with them and instead choose to build a proper building structure.

imagine it caves in while you're underground
but you don't instantly die or suffocate you just get trapped in an air pocket

no one even knows that happened because you put your set up in the middle of a 50 acre plot of land in bumblefuck northern idaho

How much would it cost to build a brick house and would it even be complicated? Wouldn't it just be you slamming down cement and bricks over and over again? Seems like the only problem would be whether or not you could physically do it.

This is honestly the only real issue I've seen with shipping container houses, aside from the height (which can be rectified by just buying a taller shipping container for a few thousand extra). If there's no treated wood on the bottom, assuming you source the container well to make sure it hasn't shipped anything toxic, and you give the interior and exterior a very heavy coating of paint, what would be the issue at that point?
