I couldn't find a clear answer online, so I came to /biz/

I'm paying rent to live in a person's basement in their house. Would their income be considered part of my household income(for tax and assistance purposes)even though I'm renting from them?

>> No.291963

Technically you're their dependent, seeing as you depend on them owning the house for rental. So, unfortunately for tax reasons you can't claim yourself. Your tax filing status will be a zero.

No. It would only count if you were living there as a family, etc. "Household" generally means family.

What if I'm related to them, but I buy my own food and provide for myself?

Wait, what? I rent a room in someone's house (the landlord lives here as well). We even have a lease agreement and there are two other tenants. I always claim an exception on me and never had any problems with the IRS. Am I missing something?

Well, my leg's gotten fucked and I'm trying to see if I can get some sort of assistance since I can't afford to take myself to the doctor, but I don't know if my landlord's income will count against me since we live in the same residence even though I'm renting.

I'm just trying to see if I'm going to get fucked in some way before I fill out a form for some sort of medical assistance.

seriously?

no, it's not considered household income
household income = you + spouse

maybe I'm wrong

answer depends on context. I would assume household income = you + spouse

but wikipedia says otherwise
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Household_income_in_the_United_States
>ach household is measured by the income of every resident over the age of 15

See, if it's everyone in the house, then I wouldn't be able to get any assistance because of the other people(landlord, other tenants) because that combined income is too much for me to get any help for my leg. I won't ask them for help, it's not their problem.

I know people rent out houses, so this probably has occurred before. I'm just concerned that if I use my address it'll pull up my landlord and I'll get instantly denied because they take his income into consideration.
