When the average American is living paycheck to paycheck and a thousand dollar unexpected expense can put them flat on their asses, then a liquid emergency fund is pretty necessary.

Emergency fund is reddit tier financial advice. You live with your parents, and they're probably rich

>> No.28993324

idk some people might need cash on hand for whatever retarded shit they're involved in. Personally I don't have any money in a bank account, all in crypto. And withdrawal fees are zero where I trade so if i need money i just wire it over.
Thinking about getting one of those crypto credit cards but havent bothered yet.

Your emergency funds are your investments, that's why you don't invest more than you can lose. If you need surgery or whatever you have to liquidate your investments, you don't save in preparation for breaking your leg, because it should never fucking happen.

My emergency fund is a SP 500 ETF.

>> No.28994794

>>28993694
I think the whole point of an emergency fund is that you can't afford not to have it available and liquid at the time that you need it. In that sense, the "don't invest what you can't afford to lose" advice would preclude investing your emergency fund in the first place. You also would be protected from having to liquidate at a loss. Basically, an emergency fund is just a hedge, like gold or bonds. You won't make a lot of money on it, but it protects you from loss.
