What is the secret to making good coffee?

>> No.28873182

Only get whole bean and grind it right before you brew it (keep it refrigerated the rest of the time) and use cold, cold water in the machine. You don’t want it rising above ~180*f bc acidity.

Everything else is just personal preference

Also experiment with ratios of how much coffee to how much water, I like doing 1 tbsp of ground per 1 cup, and that’s usually pretty strong.

Just buy an Aeropress, it'll make dollar store coffee tast good.

If you put egg shells in the grounds it will detract some of the bitterness

this. If it gets too hot the coffee goes to shit. Get whole beans, grind em yourself. Pre-ground coffee has a substantial amount of dirt in it, no joke.

this basically. i like to a use a French press, water temp is very crucial

>> No.28873986

This and combine it with an Aeropress as they're dirt cheap and you don't need to care about the ground consistency at all, Aeropress just works.

you still have to make the coffee and you need hot water for that. try it with cold one and you will know

Brb, going to store to pick up aeropress and a bottle of coke. If this isn't the best cup of coffee I've ever had I'll kill one of the hostages

It’s the same steps but you just put the coffee in ice after

This. EU for example allows ground spices to have 2% of sand in them. If it's not there already you can be sure it will be added to reach 2%. Same probably goes for ground coffee

>conical burr grinder
>Electric gooseneck kettle that can adjust temp (gooseneck for versatility/occasional drip pour)
>French press
>Aeropress
>Good water
>Good beans

All you need.

Easiest way to make good cold brew is in a french press. The french press isnt a half bad way to make multiple cups of coffee at once either. Fine grind and let it sit at room temp for 12-16hrs. 24-48 if refrigerated.

Aeropress is idiotproof good coffee. You can't make bad coffee, its just whether or not you were efficient with your beans. I personally make it on the stronger side, flash brewing into a cup of ice cubes.

Water is very important. If you feel like your coffee is underperforming then buy some jugs of gucci water. Good water makes good cups of coffee. Bad water will result in strangeness.

Beans matter too. Buy fresh, recent roasts. Amazon shit will be months old when it gets to you.

Protip: Flip aeropress upside down and fill it with grounds/water, stir for 15-20 secs then let it sit for 5 mins before flipping upright and emptying. It's not like it'll make shitty coffee taste incredible, it just hands any consistency and is really easy to use and clean - you'll still want to find freshly roasted beans (look at how oily they are, the dry out over time) and grind them before brewing for optimal flavour.

If you don't want a lighter flavour then use the Aeropress upright from the start like the instruction manual suggests.
