28781522 No.28781522 [Reply] [Original]

Seems we passed the governance vote for the badger whitelisting.
We'll be able to get some btc whales aboard and have some of their experienced developers take part in our community.

Don't forget to vote for the proposal for the vbnt whitelisting. We need a 40% quorum for it to pass!

Also, does someone have the bancor explanation for brainlets? Also a big brains explanation. WIll add them to the general than from now on.

Brainlet explanation:
https://twitter.com/DeFiFrog/status/1359268916799840256
>100% impermanent loss protection after staking for 100 days.
>Great yields, great volume, TVL on platform is steadily climbing. 100m in january 2021, 550m now.
>Team are true OG status, invented the protocols that AMM like Uniswap use
>token itself sitting at 450m marketcap vs >3b for it's competitors
>L2 based on Arbitrum coming; testnet since early January. Front end interface for test net was just released. 50x reduction in gas fees as soon as it's out.
>limit orders and general UI update coming very soon
>Bancor Vortex being rolled out as we speak, gives Bancor Aave-like functionality: you basically get a token to spend on other shitcoins or restake for your collateral in BNT
>favored staking platform of huge Link whales. Bancor has the most Link liquidity out of any dex.
>Atomic LP swaps from/to other pools coming
>Polkdadot bridge coming
Big brain explanation:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbUqcbNqQ-Y

#1 IL protection. Not as impactful during a bull market but larger stacks looking generate revenue from providing liquidity will obviously want IL protection when things settle down or go south for a while.
#2 Single sided staking. Wanna stay all-in on your token of choice and still provide liquidity? Bancor is your guy.
#3 Vortex. You get vBNT from staking your BNT that you can swap for different coins if you think they will outperform BNT, then swap a portion of the tokens back to vBNT to unlock your BNT stake when you want to.
#4 Massive growth in TVL, #1 pool for locked Chainlink. Marketcap hasn't gone up proportionately. Sitting around 500m while competitors with inferior tech and higher swap fees sit at 10x that.
#5 Working demo on arbitrum testnet with 50x lower gas/swap fees.
#6 EOS bridge up and running, actively building a Polkadot bridge
#7 Sweet sweet passive income with insane APY% (for now). Tons of linkwhales chilling in LPs.

IL is dependent on price movements, not on the size of pools. The loss would be greatest if you're in a pool where one of the two moons while the other stays flat. For example, one of the stablecoin pools will always have varying amounts of IL on the Bancor side (this seems strange until you realize that stables never go up, so Bancor is always "mooning" in comparison to them, thus if part of your mooning Bancor is exchanged for stablecoins to balance the pool, that'd be a fat loss.)
Very small pools can be nice since they'll have a relatively large amount of the total fees coming your way, whereas the huge LINK and ETH pools have the best volume and are most attractive for whales to do their swaps in (bigger fees).
The arguably "worst" pools to be in with your BNT are the medium sized pools, since there's just not much going on relative to the other two types.

You’re probably poor and not a big picture guy right? You want bBADGER and bDIGG on Bancor because it will increase tvl and swap fees for you.

There’s many more benefit is but I presume you hold BNT solely for price appreciation as your stack isn’t large enough

well, i have 12k bnt, so yes i'm poor compared to whales but i stake ofc.

ok, so it's just a question of whether those coins will be stable enough to warrant having a pool. unless they have a high likelihood of not being stable enough, it seems as though not many people would be motivated to vote against them. so it's very likely that whatever the best option for me is will pass regardless. no?

Sorry to bring bad news but if you have to ask these questions I would caution you against using Bancor. The compound gains on your stack would not offset the gas fees.

>What's the likelihood of stable pool lm rewards receiving no extension?
Very low for the next 2-3 months. Bancor needs all volume it can get and stable coin pools make up roughly 1/5 of total volume. I wouldn't bet on LM rewards for stable coins for 72 weeks though.

>> No.28789306

Nobody knows any exact odds, but they're the most expensive pool to maintain for the protocol because impermanent loss in them is a give due to the nature of stablecoins.
It'd depend if the size and liquidity they can bring to swaps is worth the tradeoff.

Was debating on providing some more liquidity with bnt into one of the stable pools, weighing the current rates against the constant IL pointed out. Think I'll just go with the ETH pool and play the long game, anticipating a steady APR once LM is gone.

>> No.28790438

>>28789978
I'm 99% sure that LM rewards will stay enabled on the ETH/BNT pool until the reward program runs out. It's the most important pool next to LINK/BNT and they need much, much more TVL in there to own the large swap space which is where the big $$$ is.

>> No.28793722

>>28792851
The protection is retroactive. Even if your impermanent loss on day 2 is 95% due to some freak market move, so long as you hold for the full 100 days you'll get 100% of it covered. That's the beauty of Bancor.
With regular AMMs like pajeetswap, you can hold and hope the market moves back into equilibrium (the loss is not realized unless you cash out, hence impermanent) - but if it never does within the timeframe you are able to stay in the pool, you're screwed. Not so with Bancor.
