Sure, they use a combination of the new FAST PROBALISTIC CONSENSUS (FPS) and the MANA reputation system for nodes (both have extensive research published last 2 years).

Every node publishes their opinion regarding if a given transaction is valid. If no conflict with other nodes exist, finality is reached in less than 10s. If a conflict (double-spend) arises, there are several rounds of "voting", where nodes publish their opinion on which transaction is valid. Their opinions are weighted by their MANA.

MANA is generated by honestly validating value transactions and by holding tokens. It is quickly slashed if they lose a vote on FPC (because this means majority thinks this node wanted to cheat).
