Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized p2p privacy cryptocurrency!

Monero is secure, low-fee, and borderless, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT (hidden tx amounts) ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with transactions being visible only by a Monero user willingly providing a view key for a specific transaction.

Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of current popular cryptos. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of txs increases. Further, the mining network algorithm RandomX establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier of entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward will gradually approach 0.6 XMR in May 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a MoneroChad will be with you shortly.

Why would you say that much? You think money is going to flee there from BTC? Or is there something larger in terms of adoption?

I believe this too but man, we aren’t even back to the ATH. I guess it’s the same for a lot of alts though. I remember people last bull run saying monero is easily a $500 coin and I agree but it just hasn’t got there yet. Monero seems to have such a great community and it’s the best coin at acting like money. Too bad it seems to have been slept on.

Nvm, it’s there!! Please disregard.

I’m about to purchase an unknown amount of monero but hoping for the price to come down. I already purchased some a few weeks ago but want to get more. Looks like price is dipping back down... should I keep waiting over the next day? What if it pumps while I’m sleeping?

The reason I was looking at it was privacy of course. I also wondered if it's a place where I could hedge against BTC and ETH getting Bobo'd. I don't know a lot about it but I see it has a healthy community so I figured I'd ask while reading the next couple hours.
I might move a couple thousand USD into it in a day or two.
I heard zcash and monero were both privacycoins so it's cool to see that there is a clear example that one is superior.

just based on the rest of the market things could come down more over the next few days. Never panic buy or panic sell.

Depends what bitcoin does. You may get monero 10% cheaper in sat value, but that might be the most it drops.

Yes. Every og bitcoiners knows chain analysis is ruining bitcoin.

Privacy and Fungility is worth more than 1% of Bitcoin.

>>28738780
It's definitely the best and OG in terms of privacy, if anything else was better the darknet would've adopted it, but they haven't
I'm no TA guy, but accumulating since August, it seems to not give a fuck about what the others are doing MOST of the time. Obviously it can be impacted, but from what I've seen it really just has a mind of it's own and I think overtime people seem to think it will be decoupled

good advice, thanks. yeah looks like things are coming down just a bit overall

>>28738854
right, always relative to btc...

>>28739099
i still have some monero that was purchased at over $300 so yeah, I agree in general. Just if I am dropping a lump sum versus DCA then it's nice to do it on a dip and also not once the prices have really taken off

Cause xmr is the only coin being almost exclusively hodled by diamond handed dnm oldfags who recognize real value. Everything else is being fomo/fud traded by subhuman iq teenagers and boomers.

I figured as much as this. Most of what would drive it's value is less it's widespread adoption at vendors and rather as a medium in private business between regular people. Much like how private cash transactions between friends. Everything being tracked (and ta*ed) digitally really chaps my ass.
