It's quite fast but only if you rev it up. Over 9k RPM it will pull your arms off but under that it is an amazingly smooth, lite and well ballanced machine. I can ride it round cones with 1mph on the dash all day and it's a doddle. It all comes down to how much you trust yourself not to be a dick.

The RS has more power above 9kRPM and is more track orientated. Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes etc
If you are looking for a comfy ride though the street twin may be better but it's a completely different bike.
I've had loads of bikes and can honestly say that Triumph have the best build quality of any, even BMW and Honda.
Ive done 6000 mile trips on my RS and its been great plus it's fun lapping people on S1000RRs and Super Dukes when riding a 700cc bike when you take it to the track too.

It's my first bike so I don't have much to compare it to. It's got more than enough power for me, handles smooth, very reliable. On motorways I have no problem sitting at 110ks in windy conditions. I've heard the Ninja 400 can be a little underpowered if on a motorway. I added a custom exhaust, 500r's are pretty quiet stock. Overall I'd say it comes down to price & looks. Either bike is a good choice, see what is at the dealership.

I'm 6'3 and the only time I haven't felt too tall for my bike is when I owned a Tiger or the V-strom. The 2016 tiger 800 xr is the one.
There are manlets everywhere that will put lowering kits on these bikes so they can touch the floor - do not buy them, they're worse than the mt-09 for seat height.

I had a vitpilen 701 and it was fantastic, it was stolen and turns out there is no security whatsoever in the huskys or ktms. They just popped the lock top off and jammed a random key in, started up and rode off. Ouch. Best electronics and features you can get for that price, rides like a sport, gorgeous looking. KTM have phenomenal electronics but the 701 should be way cheaper than the ktms? I really really wanted to get another one but i park in the city and shopping centres (where it was stolen) etc so its too risky. Def get yourself a brake lock i had nothing extra
