It's a decent amount. You should make a spreadsheet to jot down your monthly expenses and how much you can save. From that calculate a good buffer and invest the rest. Having little means little gains (or bigger but at much more risk) but put it in perspective. A few thousand a year is still a few thousand extra you wouldn't have otherwise, and would likely cover some aspect of life, like food.
