There are bats hibernating in my basement in the house I am renting
I had to shoo out a bat once a week during the summer . I was fucking terrified.
Landlord gaslit me the entire time for 6 months it was getting fixed. It wasn’t and now nothing can be done until spring.
I stopped paying rent, I am house sitting and provide them a service at this point.

I think I probably care about this property more than them. Bats are a protected species in America and illegal to kill, 5K federal fine.
My landlords did hire a pest removal company but all they could legally do was fill in holes and put a 1 way exit cone on one of their entry spots. The bats though just kept digging in because certain spots of the roof were so damaged and neglected.
I’ve called the cops 3 times on them so far. Cops will come over and just shove them in a coffee can and release them elsewhere. I do this because I don’t want to get bitten and have to pay the cost of treatment myself, also the cops are the only people technically with authority to physically remove them
It also officially documents that this is happening and I’m not lying

no never did as i lived in a regional area where landlords charge only a sliver over what a mortgage would be in the same place. That and both rental managers were very fast on fixing things regardless. it was a good relationship.
