Obviously bitcoin has more mainstream notice as it has simply been around for 6 years longer than doge. After 5 months of existence doge has been able to build up quite the economy so far with more potential to grow in the near future than bitcoin. With 100 billion total coins (including first annual inflation of around 5%, decreasing by year), compared to bitcoins 21 million, arounf 10% of bitcoins current market cap, scrypt as algorithm, an easy to get into community and target audience it is a complete different story.
Check out the subreddit and http://dogedir.com for instance. The only thing that doge lacks is maturity right now but this will be established in the future.
