Maybe I'm wrong. I looked it up and couldn't find anything related to the NSA. Wasn't trying to FUD. This is on the wikipedia page, though.
>Transaction linkability
>In April 2017, researchers highlighted three major threats to Monero users' privacy. The first relies on leveraging the ring signature size of zero, and ability to see the output amounts. The second, "Leveraging Output Merging", involves tracking transactions where two outputs belong to the same user, such as when they send funds to themselves ("churning"). Finally, "Temporal Analysis", shows that predicting the right output in a ring signature could potentially be easier than previously thought.[32] The Monero development team responded that they had already addressed the first concern with the introduction of RingCTs in January 2017, as well as mandating a minimum size of ring signatures in March 2016.[33]
>In 2018, researchers presented possible vulnerabilities in a paper titled "An Empirical Analysis of Traceability in the Monero Blockchain".[2] The Monero team responded in March 2018.[34]

And of course there is plenty of room for both. NuCypher isn't a coin like Monero, it adds another layer of privacy over blockchains. So hypothetically you could use NuCypher WITH Monero. I guess that would be the ultimate in crypto privacy.

I don't know what you mean, but I still value Monero even if the NSA can trace transactions since I don't intend to do anything illegal.
Bitcoin is insane because even something inane like donating a right-wing e-celeb 10 bucks could be used to completely destroy your public image one day, let alone getting caught up in some scam, having it stolen or whatever else and having to prove in court it wasn't you.

>> No.28292700

I love Monero, I always have. However, I have concerns about holding it long-term due to the regulatory risk. Essentially, it's *too* good. It's quickly becoming the reserve currency for the darknet and illegal activity, and this is outstripping the legitimate users. Fewer and fewer payment processors and exchanges even sell it. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets outright banned, or even a soft-ban/deplatforming (imagine if the US required cryptocurrency providers to only use public blockchain crypto, for example).
Not trying to FUD, I still think it's great because there will always be workarounds for it, but it just doesn't make sense for me to hold large amounts of it right now. I'm sorry Monero-chan ;_;

Fair criticism, but I think Bitcoin (and even mainstream altcoins like Ether and Litecoin) have hit a critical mass of mainstream adoption/acceptance that Monero somehow hasn't. You're forgetting that atomic swaps are on the way and are going to make exchanges largely irrelevant. In fact, even if XMR doesn't get delisted, you'd still want to avoid buying Monero directly on exchanges, the less traces left the better.

And if it does get banned, demand + scarcity = higher prices. Win-win.
