28282027 No.28282027 [Reply] [Original]

Can someone help out this newfag? I tried to swap some coins on uni swap last night, but it's stuck on 'transaction pending' since then. In Metamask activity a terrifying '-1000' dollars appeared without actually influencing the amount of ethereum in my wallet.

I'm freaking out, did I just indebt myself or is that just noise? I can't cancel it: no gas. I can't speed it up: no gas. It's a real nightmare. I can't even find out if it is possible to indebt yourself on the blockchain.

For reference about that '-1000', the swap concerned 40 bucks fee and 100 bucks transfer, how the hell does that build up to 1000 bucks debt???

Kek, can’t help but I’ll bump

>> No.28282170

fuck you didnt read the terms and conditions, what you actually did was make a 10x leverage trade now they will send you a letter of debt which you will have to pay
this is why you're not supposed to bet on shitcoins until youve done your research
happened to me too bro it sux but at least it wasnt 100x leverage you woulda been in the hole for 10k

Thanks, really hoping someone technical can weigh in on this. I'm really hoping it just cancels if you can't pay

The activity for -1k should show pending if the transaction did not go through. If the transaction is cancelled, you get the tokens back but not your gas. You can cancel a transaction that is stuck at pending by sending yourself 0 ETH at the same nonce as the pending transaction but with a higher gas price (I do like 10-20% higher because if it's only slightly higher it may immediately fail)

Metamask is just a frontend
Go to etherscan.io
Put your ethereum address in it
You will see what is "actually" going on with your Ethereum account and you will have shit you can click on
There will be a tab that says "ERC20 transactions", it will give you more info about the sequence of events
Metamask is shit, it's practically like a script to make interfacing with the Ethereum network easier for humans - and when Metamask thinks something is going on, that doesn't mean it's ACTUALLY going on, it guesses

To add to this:

you can just view your wallet on etherscan from the metamask dropdown menu
on uniswap you can just click to view any pending transaction on etherscan
on metamask you can click any transaction in your activity to view it on etherscan as well

so it should be easy to find the exact transaction and see what occurred and you can find the nonce there in order to cancel it

Heh well none of my transactions showed up in Etherscan (even after a day)

>> No.28285126

>>28284747

Ah okay, thanks. So Metamask just guesses.

>>28284423

Thanks for the answer fren. I did try to do that but the transaction was still stuck on pending afterwards, I guess it just bugged out

Any transaction failed, pending, or completed should be on etherscan. Are you sure you are looking in the right spot? Use the drop-down and hit view on etherscan.

>>28285126
Uniswap sometimes shows pending even if the transaction already had an error and failed on etherscan. Check the transaction on etherscan and you can see the actual status.

When you send the 0 ETH to yourself (your own public wallet address) using metamask to cancel the transaction, make sure to set the nonce to the same as the transaction in question (check nonce of pending transaction on etherscan, then set nonce of the new transaction to the same using the advanced options or w/e). Your gas speed will determine how fast the transaction cancels (assuming it's faster than the pending one). Use gasnow to check current gas rates.

The gas fees are obnoxious bullshit so I would recommend staying clear if you don't have much to work with (since gas fees are flat cost). Even with a large baseline they can add up pretty quickly if you have a lot of tokens or are frequently swapping.
