Why do I always see people recommending 'coding'? How is that not soul-destroingly dull?

I am learning how to code, have been learning the React framework on top of some shitty SQL because lots of entry level spots seem to want either AWS knowledge or SQL. But with offices being closed, software engineers with no experience are literally fucked right now. Companies are just playing the bidding wars with qualified candidates with previous professional working experience.
Have done some online bootcamps too, I am pretty much almost at the full stack skill level but all of these nigger recruiters keep saying the same shit that 'We NeEd PrOfeSSiOnAl ExPerIeNcE'. Even internships I seem to be disregarded because I graduated 2 years ago with a shitty supply chain degree and they probably want some transgender foreigner in their teams now.

tl;dr entry level coding job opportunities are non existent unless you know somebody who can literally get you hired, but if you have even 1 year of experience you can get hired no problem.

Look for mid-size growth stage startups in debt industries. Like mortgages. They're all absolutely demolishing in this market but can't compete with FAANG in that bidding war you mentioned.

You sound like an incel, maybe that's why you're not getting the job. I imagine you are quite ugly and generally unpleasant to be around, is that right?

>> No.28211733

>>28211613
They are correct, tho the 'transgender foreigner' shit is incel spew bullshit. I do understand the frustration in general but thats not the reason. If you strawman like that you're unironically ngmi

Far from it, but nice bait. It just gets frustrating to have so many interviews and to hear the same shit from all the recruiters. My portfolio website is a MERN stack and I do have a nice polished LinkedIn. It's just literally right now the entire entry level coding job market is just absolutely fucked. If you find any entry level positions on LinkedIn there are at least 200 applicants for 1 position, and until either offices open back up, or companies can figure out how to spy on employees at home, they will not even think about a massive hiring wave of entry level devs.

I did mention to recruiters that I was open to FREE contract work just to get my foot in the door, or applying for those non paid internships. So far nothing.

But I like software development, so why call it quits? Just because you are too retarded to know how to code and to secure yourself a life fulfilling position in this age of technological advancement doesn't mean I should look for a different career.

Even if I have to work a demoralizing wagie job for another 8 months while continuing working on personal projects to showcase to recruiters, I can still come out ahead if I can secure a 80K salary 8 months from now. The only other option I would even consider would becoming an electrician, but that is literally my last resort and won't play that card unless I have to.

ahead in terms of financial security.

If I give up on finding a job and work some wagie job while going to trade school to become an electrician, I would be making like 30k a year, probably 50k by the time I graduated the trade school or something? So assuming I give up on finding a coding job, I would have made 50k by the time it took me to become a certified electrician ~ 1.5 years.

Assuming I don't give up, and work some wagie job for 8 months - maybe a year, I would have 20-30k saved up. Assuming I get an offer letter for an 80k salary come 8 months from now, I would have 20-30k saved up by that point, and a month after that I would go from 13.00 h/r from waging to $38 an hour or about $6500 monthly.

entry level positions assume you don't know shit, it's more like making sure the candidate knows the basics and has potential to grow

the most important attribute is social skills, being a good team member who can clearly communicate ideas and abstract concepts with a team will get you hired anywhere

I mean, there are supercoders who are an exception to this, but unless you started at the age 5 and do it +10 hours a day every single day you wont be one

if you expect someone to hire you just because of your technical skill you're delusional

>> No.28214954

>>28214426
If any recruiter took a peek at my resume they would know right off the bat that I do know more than just the basics. And you are right, most entry level positions don't expect the candidates to know jack shit but if you peek at most of the job listings, these recruiters are listing an entire IT department for 'Good to haves'. The social skills sector is also important but it's really not too hard to pass those tests in the interview. Make small talk, good posture, eye contact in the camera, and maybe a small joke on the side to make the recruiter laugh. Pretty much advertising yourself to be a person everybody can be friends with. But when the applicant pools are > than 100 it is literally just luck at that point. All of my friends have said finding the first coding job is harder than anything they have ever done in their lives, but its easy street after landing that first job.
No in person hackathons right now, and in person job fairs are starting to emerge again, but not as much as it used to be. I just signed up for one 10 minutes ago on March 5th.
