Does anyone know when Roblox is going to IPO?

>> No.28106959

No idea. I'm interested in how it does once pandemic restrictions lift and kids have options to play other things.

Last I heard, they were going to do a direct listing early February but thanks to Robinhood's restriction bullshit, RBLX was scared their shares would get cucked too so they decided to go for a private IPO release first and then public.

I honestly don't think pandemic restrictions will change anything for a couple of reason

1) Kids don't even go outside anymore, so if the Pandemic stopped, they are going to stay inside, on their Ipads and play Roblox.

2) Kids have nothing better to do. You're 7-12 years old, come home after a hard day at elementary school. You don't have homework to do, your mom doesn't want you to bother her, so you just go on the computer and play Roblox with your friends.

3) Roblox is the best free option for kids. For 0 dollars you have access to a platform with millions of games, it never gets boring because if you get bored, you can just play a new game.

Also, I think Roblox has the potential to become the ultimate meme stock, which would usually scare me away. But the Roblox business model is actually EXTREMELY profitable and low cost. So unlike being a meme stock like Tesla or GME that loses money, Roblox actually makes a shit ton of money.

On paper, they say they were 300mil in the red but it's mostly because they don't account for Robux sales in their revenue numbers, they add it to bookings instead. They make 1 billion in Robux sales that year so they were actually 300 million in the green in the first 9 months of 2020. Also, they 10x'd revenue in 3 years and tripled their userbase.

As someone whos played Roblox since they were a kid im super exicted.

>buy OTM calls
>wait for meme
>sell
>buy OTM puts
>cools off
>sell
>repeat

gonna dump so much dosh in this douche machine. It literally will only take some really good memes made in roblox to make this stock pump. If you have a marketing dept or a couple k and access to a roboshitter to make memes you can literally legally manipulate the market.

Full disclosure: I've never played it.

Most investors are gonna look at Roblox and compare it to Minecraft. While both are kids games, Minecraft does have a large base of older players. Older players means more content creators which brings in more coverage. Something which sticks out to me is the fact you can take a screenshot of anywhere within Minecraft and it's iconic. Do the same with Roblox and it's always going to look like a rough, aging game engine.

I think a better comparison would be to look at SecondLife and see how that's doing long term.

I still code on roblox btw
It’s a great way for kids to learn basic programming

Roblox's engine is old, I think Directx 9.

Given the creation tools I think Second Life is a fair comparison.

Thank you for disclosing you have never played roblox.

I think a comparison for Roblox would not be Second life but instead, be Youtube. Roblox isn't a game, its more of a platform for games to be made. Second life is more like a game with user creation aspects. Second life gets boring because its all really the same game with different worlds. Roblox doesn't get boring because they are just different games.

The Roblox game engine has so much room to grow graphically, most of the games chose to be graphically simplistic because it runs better on non-gaming PC's kids have and on mobile. Also, it's constantly being updated and optimized. I think you should play some Roblox games and see that the games don't look rough at all.

Also, pic rel is a Roblox game.

>> No.28111132

>>28110959
Yup, they just aren't made as often because game devs want their games to run on mobile and integrated graphics systems. Thats what most kids use.

I've admittedly never cared about Second Life, I'm just going on what I know from when I played Roblox in 2008 to now. What sets Roblox apart from that, or even Club Penguin/Gaia Online is the fact that its basically a free platform for a bunch of games like >>28107671
said, it's not just an excuse for a chatroom. Plus it made the smart decision to jump on the smartphone bandwagon early on with even an Xbone port for those that care instead of being PC only, which only helped.
Granted I dont see it going up to Nexon levels of hueg but it'd be interesting to follow, so long as it aint more than $4 a share.

>> No.28111431

>>28111039
this is what gives it staying power imo. creators can make and monetize their creations causing feedback loops that keep the system running

It had almost 300 mil of free cash flow in the first 9 months of 2020 (that's not even including the Christmas rush that happens every year when kids get money from their parents to buy Robux). They sold 1 billion dollars worth of Robux in 9 months. They are valued at 30 billion right now ($40 a share), which I won't lie, is probably pretty overpriced. But looking at Roblox's growth and how they tripled their user base in 3 years and 10x'd their revenue in 3 years, it's pretty insane.

They're at almost 175 million monthly active users. Me, being a Roblox player, I'm pretty bias, but since I know so much about Roblox, see its growth first hand and how much the amount of money the game devs have been making now, I have very high hopes.

Cool, thanks for the info. If I were a community manager for Roblox I would set up some sort of collaboration with SetDefault1 because those maps are sort of things people need to see.

>>28111254
Mobile support was definitely a smart move and set them up to capitalize on the pandemic. Looking at the explosive growth of Fortnite and Among Us, multiplatform is critical.

Their careers page is certainly bustling with activity. These seem like good indicators to me.

Im glad you see the value of Roblox. Im probably going to let this thread die now because I don't want to many people learning about Roblox pre-ipo.
