In an Over Priced Market. Be Patient.
Find 3-5 Stocks that are fairly priced and you would be comfortable investing in them now (EX: Low P/E, Low Debt, Boring quite Company, been around for a while, solid management). If the market tanks and nothing has changed with their business but they are now trading at a discount, buy more. If the market starts to recover, they will rise with it and remain a great investment, if it doesn't then they will do fine, preserving your capital and weathering any economic hardships.
Watch out for companies with extremely High P/E's. Unless their earnings are going to be astronomical, the earnings have already been discounted well into the future. If they don't meet the markets expectations, they will fall hard.
Invest in what you know. If you don't understand and can't explain what the company does, it is likely not the right company for you.
