The concept you must learn is that there is "soft" money and "hard" money.
So in Eastern Euro 1990s, "soft" money meant local currency and "hard" money was USD or German Marks.
"Soft" money is malleable by the government (inflation), "hard" money is not. "Hard" money is used for foreign trade also.
So the government is interested in controlling/restricting the flow of "hard" money abroad.

1.) ETH forks its network to ETH 2.0 and this successfully reduces network congestion
2.) ETH native networks migrate to an entire different platform
3.) A bridge network is created to allow interoperability between ETH and another next gen blockchain network.

These problems wont change even if the rest of the world falls to pieces. I bet on the longevity of crypto.
