Capitalism isn't perfect, but it is the most democratic system we have. People vote with their dollars; products and companies succeed or fail based on democratic process.

I think it's the best we have right now. Let's look at the polar opposite.

Communism: A command economy in which consumers have no voice - the government controls which products and companies succeed or fail.

The problem with capitalism in America is there is no pure capitalism when government interferes in the economy. America has a capitalistic economy with elements of socialism, which supports morality and humanistic ideals. It's not a pure democracy, but it's certainly better than communism.

Pure capitalism is problematic. A mixed system combining elements of both capitalism and socialism like that used in modern industrialized nations seems to work well. Use the right tool for the right job.

Its actually impossible to have a true free market economy so why say we should have one.

Either you have a government that has defense contracts, schools, roads, fire departments, police and what ever else they do. Also courts and copyrights are critical to current capitalism. Without either of these government functions large sectors of the economy would cease to function.

One could say we could do without government all together but then you end living like people in Somalia where capitalism breaks down because people with guns keep stealing shit from people without guns.

Let me rephrase that... People with more guns take what they want with people with less guns. I mean everyone owns a gun over there, its just a matter of who has the most guns. Its not a friendly environment for investing when people keep stealing the profits.
