LP tokens are the safest hold in DEFI. you're money is as safe as can be and it limits your swing temptations. You're IL will suck, but that's why you choose a coin that isn't super volatile with a high APY. do your research or choose a stable coin farm.

If you want to buy it, sure do it. it's a great hold. but remember you are buying a fraction of an exponent. this will be worth way more in a year than it will in 2 weeks and any slight correction we see will be a blip on a radar in a years time.

take if from me, early on i swung my liquid stack (5% harvests) into a shit coin and lost it all (currently my 6m BAO would've been 15k$) learned my lesson.)

By putting up LP tokens, lets say $50 ETH and $50 USDC. Your investment stays staked at $100 (because its a stable coin, IL would kick in if it had any volatility). You would then use those tokens to farm. yielding a variable amount of BAO per block based on your percentage of the liquidity pool.

So in both cases, you spend $100 initial investment.
Except Case One, your return is always in relation to the amount of tokens you purchased.
Case Two, your $100 in ETH/USDC is sitting waiting for you while you now also have 1000%APY in bao. essentially 10x your investment.

Also, I'm more so concerned with losing bao. I think it definitely has the potential to take off after doing a lot of research on synthetics. So if farming isn't making up the IL losses, then in a couple of years I'll definitely be kicking myself. Just hope my caution pays off.

Also, I understand about this school situation. I'm a senior, and every year before this done great. 3.9 GPA, triple major, past internships, etc. Last semester I took 22 credit hours and worked and only made one B. But for some reason this semester, I am just having a much harder time with the online nature of everything and being so isolated. It's funny, never considered myself a really social person before all this but have definitely started to feel it this past month. Thinking about dropping down to 10~13 hours (taking 19 right now).

So the liquidity pool gains are basically how much profit I earn from staking my LP tokens and being a liquidity provider (it doesn't take into account the bao ive farmed). Since ive lost so much due to IL as you can see, that's mostly negative. But the net market gains is the money I made from the price of the asset going up. I'm honestly still a newfag so just lurk more if it's confusing.
Regarding school, you sound like a smart person. I don't think I'm that smart, rather im just too stubborn to quit. I also think everyone is just feeling the drain based on what I've talked to since replacing in person interaction with something on a screen is severely wrong. Obviously since this is 4chan you could argue that's what (((they))) want, but I'm kinda beyond caring since it just makes me so miserable. Cryptography (pure cryptography) is actually mostly based on diophantine equations and analytic number theory. I was gonna take some classes at uni but because of covid I can't fml. I took a cryptography class. It was in the CS dept at my uni here, so that may color my perception of the field, but more CS-type engineering considerations do enter into the theory a lot now. Since nobody has used paper OTP and ciphers since the 1950s; everything is computerized so without considering that a researcher may not do well. In your classes it may not be as pure as you'd like in that regard, unless you're taking those classes in diophantine eq + number theory by themselves. I'm hearing a lot of FUD concerning the FTW listing and how this means BAO will be shorted to oblivion. Any proper counter argument against that?
I sold some when the FTX listing was announced but it seems like it's holding pretty strong with a floor at 0025, actually ready to break out beyond 003.
I don't know what to do but I have the feeling it'll just keep going up.
