To answer OP's question, being an RN is really good for someone who doesn't want to study past an undergrad while making 70k/year in their early 20s. Nurses, on average, have better unions than any other hospital services in Canada. Paying ridiculous U.S. tuition prices will offset your gains for a while though, but your choices for a 'worthy' degree are limited already.

I have an undergrad in history and a masters in architecture. I worked at a firm for a couple years before I teamed up with my dad who is a contractor. We just build and sell, profits are split depending on what exactly we are building. I make very good money doing this and also kept a few properties to keep as assets. Unless you are the 1% in your field or are in an industry like law and medicine you will never make good money just following down the traditional job path anymore.

Watching doctors and nurses screech autistically is great. Med lab science is comfy. Pay isn’t amazing ( I started at 30/hr) but super high security and really interesting if you like applied bio and chemistry but don’t want to go for PhD.

If you google "Data Science Roadmap" and "Machine Learning Roadmap" you'll come across several of these that have 99.99% overlap in skill requirements + tools you should know how to use.

I spent hundreds of hours on YT, reading O'Reilly books (pirated obviously) on R, Python, Data Science, ML, ML tools like Sci-Kit , TensorFlow, Keras, etc. while also going through a few free boot camps and courses.

Andrew Ng has a fantastic free Coursera course on ML fundamentals that I also took. Everyone I've met has taken this course.

DataCamp has a great Data Science bootcamp and other Data Science courses.

freeCodeCamp has a great free genenral bootcamp and thousands of videos on YT.

All in all you can learn everything for free via YT University. You have to spend a few weeks gathering resources and planning out how you're going to tackle it all. 6 months in you'll have a moment where you realize how far you've come and how far you still have to go. I'm still learning as these are still new and ever evolving fields.

If you have the chance to get into a program where you won't be raped and indebted for the degree I say go for it. You're already most of the way there anyway so you might as well follow through completely. Just as an FYI all of the self taught programmers and engineers that taught themselves everything they know about Data Science and/or ML run laps around the newly minted Data Science MS's which, as fate would have it, are subordinates to the aforementioned programmers and engineers with mere CS and CE BS's (or none at all). What you learn in a graduate program is pretty fundamental and generally useless to what you'll be doing in industry (if that makes sense). You'll just end up learning most of what you'll know + get good on on the job. These are my own experiences from my workplace and that of others I immediately collaborate with.

Fuck me anon I forgot to reply to this post. I'm currently arguing with another anon in another thread whilst on 3 hours of sleep. Make a cool ML algo, build a neural network that does something cool, or find an ingenious way to make a large and otherwise useless data set into something valuable. I used FED housing data, MLS data, census data to build an interactive GIS map/dashboard sort of application that ranked neighborhoods in terms on a spectrum of "10/10 desirable" to "inner city ghetto". Medical students have 3-4 thousand hours actively treating patients after their third year.

Residents are incredibly capable compared to NPs and PAs. Hospital admin are lying to you to keep their thumb on residents.
