wasn't cryptoCURRENCY meant to be an alternative to money, so why the fuck does some of my """currency""" go poof when it is transferred?
what the hell is this? am I doing something wrong?

WELCOME TO EFFEREIUM. multiply that fee by 20x by the time ETH is 20k.
