the two people who banked the most off of gamestop (michael burry and deepfuckingvalue) are both fundamental analysis focused value investors. if there is one key takeaway from the gamestop situation it's that value investors actually haven't been phased out by algorithmic trading yet and that they can still reap enormous profits by doing autistic deep diving into a company's books and studying free cash flows and sales projections and all the other shit that gets value investors hard. and then if they actually do manage to time a short squeeze situation correctly they get an extreme multiplier off of being correct on their value driven thesis.

the difference between technical analysts and fundamental analysts is technical analysts will always have some reason to explain why something happened in hindsight and fundamental analysts will have a reason to explain what is going to happen.

im not completely discounting technical analysis, i use it somewhat, but a lot of technical analysts are just autists understanding market psychology and market sentiment through charts and numbers because that's the only way they can understand those things because of their autism.

Taleb has used this for prediction. When it became the cool thing to say that Ebola was overblown hype, he said people were right to be concerned about a pandemic. He's also used it to show that the world hasn't become less violent over time. Implicitly predicting a war. And I've seen this same math used to show that the oil+gas industry hasn't demonstrated that they've improved safety.

I also don't think it's fair to call this technical analysis. It's a type of risk management.
