Days to cover is an estimate of how long it would take them to cover all their shorts. 2 days means if all of the volume in 2 days were from the hedge fund buying shares, they would be able to completely cover their shorts.
It does not mean they have 2 days until they need to pay up. It's very concerning that the people backing gme are ignorant about such things.

These positions are pretty much guaranteed to be short sellers hedging risk and are absolutely not indicative of big money thinking the stock is gonna rocket to $800. Call options are literally THE most common way to hedge short risk and when we’re discussing billion dollar short positions, this data is barely significant. The number of people thinking this means someone with $4m is betting on the stock to be worth $800 and the amount of people upvoting these comments is fucking terrifying. It doesn't mean what you think it means. It's on the whole not a very interesting statistic and if it was, the higher the DTC, the better for the longs if anything.
There is no time limit on shorts. All that matters is 1) They're margin called or 2) They're forced to give up the short because of high shorting fees. So either you force the squeeze by pumping OR you hold and wait. The hold and wait is in the longs favor as long as they actually hold. Shorts will bleed money every day. When they want to exit, the reality is that there's not enough shares to go around. That's the squeeze.
