Almost all people with bitcoin play with it because they know the price is ridiculously unstable and they want to make money. If they actually saw it as an investment you wouldn't suddenly see all the true believers come out of the woodwork during boom cycles. Bitcoin and blockchain currencies more generally have serious potential but they are undeniably speculative and very risky. Unironically telling someone to put their earnings into bitcoin because it's safe is pretty shitty.
