It means anyone who is holding AMC is fucked. I bought at $15.50 literally right before they announced this and managed to sell at $15.80 the following day to gtfo.

They cleared their debt in doing so. Why in the fuck would they not do it? Do you expect them to sit on their shares and do nothing as the meme stock price eventually crashes back down to $4 anyways?

Companies raise money to do things buy issuing new shares. It's better than going into debt for various reasons. In theory it makes the shares worth MORE because (company+extra_cash)/new_and_old_shares is worth more than company/old_shares

i.e. they can use the $600 million dollars to do new projects that will make more money. If gamestop has any balls they will do the same to raise money for their new business model.

I've come to the realization that the stock market is seriously inferior to the crypto market and I don't think you can really argue against that.

You have two ways of looking at this
1) meme potential COULD still cause the stock to rise and give you an early escape this week
2) AMC was heavily undervalued at $4 anyways so even if there’s a massive retrace you have a chance of coming out break even or even at a profit once theaters etc open back up in summer

>> No.27317991

>>27317849
No, it doesn't, you fucking retard. Yes, it is dilutionary, but its also extremely bullish because the alternative was AMC would go bankrupt from the 400 million in debt they had no way to pay off.
So you have a choice: dilute the shares and continue to exist as a company (and pay off the debt), or don't pay it off and go bankrupt and the stock goes to 0.
So the stock NOT going to 0 is definitely a bullish event. At the VERY least its not bearish.

it's almost like the point of the stock market isn't to meme a company to infinity but instead is for a company to raise funds via equity, grow the business, and return the profits to shareholders via dividends and buybacks.

I just hope nobody colludes, if they are going in on stocks it's because they like the stocks. I'm all for everyone hating on hedge funds but people need to obey the rules. The hedgfunds themselves need to obey the rules too. And it seems to me in my uneducated non-financial advisor opinion that shenanigans are happening, but AMC printing more shares does seem to be allowed.

This. This is another reason why GME is the unicorn. They have no debts, so there's less temptation to sell their corporate shares to the hedgies for a bailout.
