Meanwhile, at other firms, they notice that GME is experiencing rapid growth as the early adopters of the stock from DFV's posts start to jack up the price. These firms start opening shorts while Melvin is simultaneously closing shorts. Melvin's old shorts suck for them because they were opened at much lower stock prices than they are being forced to buy at, but any new shorts being opened are much more advantaged because the stock is so unlikely to keep a three digit price in the long run. This simultaneous opening and closing of short positions obscures what Melvin is really doing and makes it look like Redditors who are late to the party have managed to get in on catching this hedge fund with its pants down.
